SRT100: Innovating Topical Radiation Therapy for Skin Cancers
by Mark S. Nestor, MD, PhD
The United States has become one of the chief areas of non-melanoma as well as melanoma skin cancer. One of the first treatments that was invented by dermatologists has been the use of radiation therapy for skin cancer. George Miller McKee, who is the father of many of the treatments of both melanoma and non-melanoma, actually wrote one of the original books in the US on the treatment of these conditions with radiation therapy. The SRT100 is the innovation that allows radiation therapy to move into the 21st century and allows dermatologists to utilize a computerized system that has significant safety thresholds built in to treat patients who are certainly appropriate and can benefit from this treatment in a safe and effective manner.
